Naturopathic Medicine

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic practice blends centuries-old natural, nontoxic therapies with advances in the science of health and human systems, covering all aspects of family health from prenatal to geriatric care.  Conventional (mainstream) or allopathic medicine, as it is sometimes referred to, generally treats symptoms with drugs. Allopathic medicine attempts to create a force opposite to the symptom. For example, a runny nose might be treated with a drug to dry the sinuses. Natural medicine concentrates on the whole-patient wellness, centers around the patient and emphasizes prevention and self-care. Naturopathic medicine attempts to find the underlying cause of the patient’s condition rather than focusing on symptomatic treatment. For example, a runny nose might be caused by a food allergy or environmental factor.

What are the Naturopathic Principles?

Vis Medicatrix Naturae

Your body has an innate ability to heal itself.  Naturopathic physicians help  remove blocks in and channel this energy to your highest healing potential.

Tolle causum: find the cause

We can always treat palliatively and find the band-aid to make you feel better.  But is that what you really want?  Naturopathic physicians strive to get to the root of disease and create change at this level. In this way , you are not temporarily fixed but permanently cured.

First do no harm

How many people do you know who have become ill from all the medications they are on for various conditions.  N.D.’s strive to use the least invasive, most effective treatments possible to gently bring you back into a state of balance.

Treat the whole person

You are not a disease. Naturopathic physicians see you as a whole and valuable person, not just as a condition. You are seen in your entirety, mind-body-spirit, and these aspects are taken into account in your treatment and care.

Health is a graded spectrum A diagnosis is made when one has traveled quite a distance towards the disease side.  There are a myriad of preventative measures to increase health, wellness, and quality of life before we get to that place of diagnosable disease.
